Fuziah Mohd Nadzar

With 34 years of experience as a lecturer with the Faculty of Information Management (FIM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Puan Hajah Fuziah binti Haji Mohd Nadzar needs no introduction in the field of library science.

Puan Hajah Fuziah binti Haji Mohd Nadzar had spent a large part of her career as Lecturer, as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor before her retirement in 2016. Being Course Tutor (1988-1990) and Dean (1991-1994) of the Faculty had provided her with experiences on the administration and management of the academic programmes and the faculty.

Her substantive roles involved:
• teaching and developing students, in both the undergraduate and graduate programmes, to fill in positions as librarians and information managers for the Malaysian library and information industry
• supervising students’ research in the undergraduate, MSc and PhD programmes
• conducting research and development to contribute towards the body of literature in the field of library and information science in Malaysia
• doing consultation work for various library organisations for their growth and development
• writing, co-writing and publishing many books, book chapters, R&D outputs, journal articles, conference papers, and proceedings
• leading various committees and senior council member for continuous improvements and growth of the faculty
• translating and editing of faculty documents, students’ theses and dissertations
• mentoring and grooming young lecturers to become future lecturers and leaders of the Faculty of Information Management, UiTM

In 2000 she translated and published “Pengenalan kepada Pengindeksan dan Pengabstrakan” [Introduction to Indexing and Abstracting / Donald B. Cleveland and Ana B. Cleveland, California: Libraries Unlimited] with a fellow colleague, Sohaimi Zakaria (now Prof. Dr.).  Puan Hajah Fuziah considers this as one of the highlights in her teaching career, as 1,000 copies of the translated book was sold out.

She has a keen interest in these activities:
• translating research reports, IFLA publications (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions)
• editing of Berita PPM (the newsletter of the Librarians Association of Malaysia)

Throughout her career, she had received the following awards:
• 2013 — UiTM Loyal Service Award for 31 Years
• 2013 — Best Employee Award for the Library and Information Management Program (IM244), FIM, UiTM Puncak Perdana
• 2013 — PERMATA Award – (Award for Best Lecturer from IMSA, Information Management Student Association)
• 2008 — UiTM Loyal Service Award for 25 Years
• 2008 — UiTM Excellent Service Award
• 1979 — UiTM Excellent Service Award
• Sept. 1980 – May 1982 — ITM/PSD Young Lecturer Scheme Scholarship
• 1979 — School of Library Science Best Student Award, ITM

At the UiTM level, Puan Hajah Fuziah had been part of winning project teams for the following innovation awards:
i) Bronze Medal (2011)
“MyLIS-dex”, is an indexing project of library websites in Malaysia, aimed to index and compile information on the websites of Malaysian libraries to support the efforts of information searching and retrieval.  (Innovation Carnival, FIM, UiTM Puncak Perdana.)
ii) Bronze Medal (2011)
“Multi-purpose Laptop Table”, a project to design and build a multi-purpose laptop table, to be placed in the computer labs or seminar halls in universities or schools.  (Innovation Carnival, FIM, UiTM Puncak Perdana.)
iii) Bronze Medal (2010)
“LiBaC”, a computerised library system project, designed using the Winisis software and developed in cooperation with lecturers from the FIM Department of UiTM Merbok, Kedah.  (Innovation Carnival, UiTM Shah Alam.)
