Introduction 

Please do not wait for AACR3, it will not appear. The way forward is RDA.

But what is RDA? RDA stands for Resource Description and Access.  This new cataloguing standard for libraries and other communities is used to describe all types of resources, be it in printed or electronic forms. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the basics of RDA, the changes from AACR2R to RDA and the continuity of the foundations of AACR2R in RDA.  The approach in this workshop is practical rather than conceptual, where participants will be able to catalogue using the RDA standard and coding records in MARC 21.

Objectives
After attending the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Acquire knowledge and understanding of Resource Description and Access (RDA)
  • Create RDA records
  • Acquire confidence in embracing and practicing RDA
  • Implement the transition from AACR2R to RDA standard for future improvement.

Intended Audience
Cataloguers, librarians in general, library administrators, policy makers and academicians in information management.
