Introduction 


The ability and effectiveness of libraries or information centres in providing top notch services rely heavily on the knowledge and skills of their staff within the effective realm of librarianship, especially in the aspects of cataloguing and classification. Therefore, library professionals need continuous exposure and training in the fields relevant to their roles and functions in order to execute responsibilities with confidence and excellence. This 4-day workshop exposes the participants to basic and latest information and experience of descriptive cataloguing, subject cataloguing, and classifying information materials using international standards.

Objectives
1.     Obtain up-to-date knowledge and skills in descriptive cataloguing for various information materials using AACR2R.

2.     Obtain skills to carry out subject classification and classifying of information materials using Library of Congress Subject Headings and Library of Congress Classification System or Dewey Decimal Classification System effectively.

3.     Strengthen knowledge and skills in using the MARC 21 format for various media of information materials.

4.    Provide a platform to network with other professionals and gain insights into new relevant ideas and strategies.

1.     Junior Cataloguers – to gain further knowledge, skills and confidence

2.     Senior Cataloguers – as a refresher course, gaining up-to-date knowledge and problem solving platform
