Library and information history could be traced back to earlier times circa 320 BC. This field still exists now due to continuous inventions, innovations and ideas generated by the librarians and information professionals. In the current K-economy, where the survival of an organisation is determined by how good it manages the knowledge within the institution to achieve sustainable competitive advantage; knowledge management is unavoidable. In relation to this, information professionals should not only be confined by the library and information principles and practices. They should also evolve and adapt to the K-environment by implementing knowledge management (KM) in their field to stay relevant, thus able to add value to their institution and stakeholders. This course is suitable for all information professionals, especially those in senior positions who would like to explore the potential of KM.

Workshop Objectives/Expected Outcomes

1. Understand the domain of KM – KM essentials and its rationale.
2. Understand the KM tools and how to use it for KM initiatives.
3. Able to identify suitable initiatives in implementing KM in the library and information fields.

Intended Audience of the Workshop

This workshop is aimed at librarians, senior librarians and information professionals from any types of libraries and information/resource centres.
